Hands Off SNAP

Don't let the Officials in Washington Take Away SNAP from 755,000 People - including 90,000 Pennslyvanians

Under the direction of the current Administration, USDA has proposed a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) rule that would create a strict time limit for food benefits for unemployed and underemployed people who can’t find work or are unable to work enough hours.

Many people in our communities who are already struggling would be kicked off SNAP after just three months even if they:

  • Have searched for work but live in an area where very few jobs are available
  • Are working but can only secure part-time hours (less than 20 hours per week)
  • Need time to build skills needed for the types of jobs available in today’s economy
  • Face barriers to employment such as returning home from incarceration or seeking treatment for addiction – barriers that will only become more difficult to overcome without food

Those at risk need our help! Submit a comment stating your strong opposition to the proposed rule during the public comment period (ends April 2, 2019)

Tell Our Federal Administration the proposed rule is harsh and unfair. It would:

  • Cause serious harm to individuals, communities, and the nation
  • Fuel rates of hunger and poverty by denying food to vulnerable people
  • Do nothing to improve the health and employment of those in need of help
  • Harm the economy, grocery retailers, farmers, and communities by reducing the amount of SNAP dollars available to spur local economic activity
  • Sidestep Congress, which debated and rejected these types of changes when it just passed the Farm Bill in December
