About Hunger
Imagine not knowing where your next meal is coming from.

That's the reality for nearly 1 in 4 people in Philadelphia. And 1 in 3 children across the United States.
In America:
- Nearly 49 million Americans struggle to put food on their tables.
- Half of all American children will receive SNAP (food stamp) benefits before age 20. That figure is 90% for African-American children.
In the five-county Philadelphia region:
- More than 630,000 people now rely on SNAP to buy groceries for their families. Those figures have doubled in Bucks and Montgomery counties since the start of the recession.
- Last year, nearly half of all children in Philadelphia received food from food pantry.
Hunger and malnutrition have devastating and long-lasting impacts on our communities:
- Hungry people are 30% more likely be hospitalized.
- Hungry children are 50% more likely to repeat a grade.
- Hunger costs the state of Pennsylvania more than $6 billion every year, including medical and mental health services, lost worker productivity and charitable expenses.
Every day, an army of food pantries, soup kitchens and community organizations keep families from going hungry every day. The Walk+Run Against Hunger benefits more than 100 of these important programs.
This year, your support is needed more than ever for the Walk+Run Against Hunger. And every step taken, every dollar donated counts in the ongoing fight against hunger.
