Anti-Hunger Policy Platform

In the spring of 2009, the Coalition Against Hunger led an unprecedented collaboration among Philadelphia's anti-hunger organizations to establish an advocacy agenda for city, state and federal policymakers.

This Anti-Hunger Policy Platform resulted in several key victories, including:

  1. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's decision to extend Philadelphia's universal feeding pilot program, which allows more than 120,000 students in low-income schools to eat free meals by eliminating bureaucratic paperwork.
  2. Pennsylvania’s decision to raise the income limit for SNAP from 130% to 160% of the federal poverty level, enabling an additional 50,000 Philadelphia residents to qualify for SNAP.
  3. The establishment of the first Mayor's Task Force on Hunger in Philadelphia, aimed at reducing and preventing hunger in the city, especially among children.
