Anti-Hunger Policy Platform
In the spring of 2009, the Coalition Against Hunger led an unprecedented collaboration among Philadelphia's anti-hunger organizations to establish an advocacy agenda for city, state and federal policymakers.
This Anti-Hunger Policy Platform resulted in several key victories, including:
- The U.S. Department of Agriculture's decision to extend Philadelphia's universal feeding pilot program, which allows more than 120,000 students in low-income schools to eat free meals by eliminating bureaucratic paperwork.
- Pennsylvania’s decision to raise the income limit for SNAP from 130% to 160% of the federal poverty level, enabling an additional 50,000 Philadelphia residents to qualify for SNAP.
- The establishment of the first Mayor's Task Force on Hunger in Philadelphia, aimed at reducing and preventing hunger in the city, especially among children.
