Last week, Governor Shapiro signed the PA state budget bill into law. This budget includes some exciting provisions that will increase food security for Pennsylvania students!
Earlier this week, both houses of Congress passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, a bill that will raise the debt ceiling in exchange for spending cuts, and President Biden has said that he will sign the bill as soon as possible. This bill is the result of weeks of negotiation to avoid the country defaulting on its existing debt, which would have been catastrophic for the economy.
Good news! Pennsylvania has been approved to issue P-EBT benefits to kids ages 0-5 who were receiving SNAP in the 2022-2023 school year.

The farm bill consists of 12 “titles”, covering topics such as conservation, rural development, and forestry. Title 4, the nutrition title, includes SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).
