Statement from the Coalition Against Hunger

Moments ago, the House of Representatives passed the 2018 budget resolution by a count of 219-206. This resolution would strip billions of dollars from vital programs that help families make ends meet and strengthen communities. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly food stamps), will be among those most deeply cut if the Senate  follows suit with a total disregard for working families who struggle put food on the table.

Advocacy Alert: Calls Needed

Thank you for continuing to stand up for those who face hunger in our region. The Coalition Against Hunger is working to protect the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or food stamps) from devastating cuts in the federal budget. Through our Protect SNAP campaign, more than 1,500 emails have been sent to legislators so far this year! Now is the time to let your voice be heard. Please call your local representative in Congress and tell them you oppose cuts to SNAP!

Nourishing Neighbors

This fall, taking part in the fight against hunger is as easy as shopping!

Thomas' Brand, ACME Markets, and Giant Food Stores have pledged a portion of Thomas' English Muffins, Bagels, and Swirl Bread products to help thousands of families put food on the table in our region through the Thomas' Nourishing Neighbors campaign.

St. Mary's Little Free Pantry

The internet is full of “do-it-yourself” ideas that seem easy but turn out to be a frustrating exercise in patience. Not so however, with St. Mary’s Little Free Pantry, launched on September 10 in Wayne, Pennsylvania.

“Someone at our Sunday School teacher’s meeting saw it on the internet,” said Fr. Joseph Smith, pastor at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. “We saw it, and we did it.”

Host a Healthy Food Drive

The Coalition receives phone calls and emails each day from people who want to get involved in the fight against hunger. Most often, people look to volunteer at a local food pantry or soup kitchen. For these requests, we direct volunteers to our Food Pantry Map, which was recently updated and now includes more than 400 food pantries and soup kitchens, many of which could use volunteers to work a shift or serve a meal.
