Happy Giving Tuesday! Following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, on Giving Tuesday we pause from shopping for gifts for loved ones to give a gift of a different kind — helping to end hunger in our community.

Tax reform is a boring, confusing issue that many of us want to ignore. But the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" currently being considered in Congress needs your attention, as it will have a dramatic and devastating impact on low-income American families if allowed to become law. 

Today, people around the country are speaking out using #TheseCutsHurt on social media to raise awareness about how proposed budget cuts will hurt their families, children, communities, and this country as a whole.

“We have people here that need help, but we also have to reach outside of our community when disasters like this happen,” said Derek Felton, Community Organizer with the Coalition Against Hunger.

Today, Derek is dropping off boxes of supplies to the Red Cross destined for hurricane relief efforts in Texas and Puerto Rico. Hundreds of items were collected from the dozens of local food pantries that The Coalition supports through our Victory In Partnership or “VIP” Program.

Moments ago, the House of Representatives passed the 2018 budget resolution by a count of 219-206. This resolution would strip billions of dollars from vital programs that help families make ends meet and strengthen communities. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly food stamps), will be among those most deeply cut if the Senate  follows suit with a total disregard for working families who struggle put food on the table.
