Fighters' Network Introduction

The Coalition supports food pantries so they can feed more people in need.

There are more than 700 food pantries and soup kitchens throughout Philadelphia. Although these programs keep families from going hungry every day, they struggle to keep up with the growing number of people coming to them for help. In 2010, nearly half of food pantries turned people away because they ran out of food to give them.

Our Hunger Fighters Network provides funding, training, technology and other tools to these important programs through:

  • VIP (Victory in Partnership) Project: This groundbreaking initiative networks food pantries and soup kitchens within five regions of Philadelphia so they can coordinate resources and work together to fight hunger in their communities. Participating food pantries and soup kitchens also receive funding for food, kitchen equipment and other program essentials as well workshops to help them improve their programs.
  • Walk+Run Against Hunger: The Coalition's annual fundraiser brings together more than 4,000 people and raises over a quarter-million dollars for food pantries, soup kitchens and hunger-relief agencies in Southeastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey.
  • Adopt-A-Pantry: This website portal allows visitors to learn more about food pantries and soup kitchens and donate online to support their work.
