Campaign to Target 104,000 Potentially Eligible Philadelphia Food Stamp Candidates
The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger, a nonprofit organization working to combat hunger in Southeastern Pennsylvania, is kicking off a major advertising campaign to increase awareness of and participation in the federally funded Food Stamp Program. As the cold-weather months approach, the Coalition has turned to Ferrare & Fleming Advertising and FCF Schmidt Public Relations to get the word out about various anti-hunger efforts in the region. Working with SEPTA, the agencies have created a powerful year-long advertising campaign to reach the overwhelming number of Philadelphia citizens who qualify for but are not taking advantage of food stamp benefits.
Beginning in mid-November, SEPTA buses, Broad Street Subway and Market-Frankford El cars traveling throughout the Greater Philadelphia area feature advertisements designed to encourage residents to contact the Coalition to be screened for food stamps. The print materials include 88" x 30" exterior bus posters, 11" x 28" interior cards, and 22" x 21" interior posters. The exterior bus posters will appear for two months on routes originating from SEPTA's Allegheny bus shed; interior cards will be placed in buses throughout the area and in cars on the Broad Street line; and interior posters will appear in cars on the Market-Frankford line. Both the interior cards and posters will remain in place for one year.
"With recent studies indicating that too few Philadelphia residents are taking advantage of the Food Stamp Program, we are excited to have the opportunity to reach out, motivate, and ultimately help qualified citizens," says Coalition Advocacy Coordinator Sydelle Zove. "With the SEPTA campaign, we are targeting our food stamp message to the working poor--people who commute to low-wage jobs both in and around the city of Philadelphia. The generous donations from FCF Schmidt Public Relations, Ferrare & Fleming Advertising, Viacom Outdoor, Sti-Art Graphics, and Piccari Press have made this campaign to reduce hunger in the Philadelphia community a reality. These partners recognize the value of our work and gave unselfishly of themselves."
