Stroehmann Bakeries Partners with Coalition Against Hunger to Aid Food Pantries
Every day in the Philadelphia region, food pantries struggle to feed the growing number of families and seniors who turn to them for help. Local food pantries have seen a 33 percent increase in demand over the past year, while their costs have risen 20 percent due to rising food prices and fewer donations. “Because of the recession, people who never imagined they’d need help are turning to food pantries, but these programs are running out of resources to help them,” said Carey Morgan, Executive Director of the Coalition Against Hunger. “
To ensure that these vital programs can continue serving their communities, Stroehmann, along with retail partners ACME Markets and Giant Food Stores, will donate 10 cents for every purchase of Stroehmann King and Stroehmann Dutch Country bread at ACME Markets (Oct. 9th - Nov. 5th) and at Giant Food Stores (from Oct. 11th to Nov. 7th) to support the Coalition Against Hunger’s new “Victory in Partnership (VIP) Project.” The VIP Project aims to bring more resources to food pantries and soup kitchens through new technology, tools and regional networks, so neighboring programs can work together to fight hunger in their communities (see attached fact sheet). In addition, select ACME Market locations will host food drives to benefit food pantries in their neighborhoods.
Pete Rollins, Sr. Vice President, Product Strategy and Marketing for Stroehmann added, “Our Company is based in the Philadelphia region. Our associates work, live and raise their families here. We believe in our obligation to make a difference every day in our
communities. As a food company, working with the Coalition to build programs that will provide long term solutions in the fight against hunger is a natural fit. We are excited about this opportunity and also very grateful for the support of this effort demonstrated by our retail partners, ACME Markets and Giant Food Stores.”
