  • People with disabilities enrolled in educational programs up to age 21.

Why Are Summer Meals Important?

During the school year, thousands of low-income students eat free or reduced price meals at city schools. But when school is out, many of these children face increased risks for hunger and malnutrition during the summer months.

The summer meals program fills that gap by providing nutritious meals and snacks to children throughout Philadelphia during the summer, when school is out.

Spread the Word!

Many low-income children who need summer meals aren’t getting them. In 2010, more than 91,000 children ate summer meals in Philadelphia. But that’s at least 47,000 fewer than the number of children who received school meals during the school year.

With more than 1,000 sites providing free summer meals in Philadelphia, no child should go hungry this summer.
