Food Stamp Advocate

Learn about the Food Stamp Program, which provides low-income individuals with a monthly allocation for food purchases. In just two training sessions, we can teach you how to collect information from a client and make a preliminary determination of eligibility. We'll also equip you with the information necessary to assist the client in taking the next step—applying for food stamps. Once trained, we will find a convenient and supportive screening site (e.g. food cupboard, soup kitchen, health clinic, job readiness site, or our hotline) that will welcome you.

If you already volunteer at a feeding program or work at a social service agency, then you can take your new skills back there with you. Along with the services you are already providing, you'll be able to help those in need apply for food stamp benefits. Read more about our training sessions. Note that shortened or modified trainings may be available to groups that request them.
