Tax reform is a boring, confusing issue that many of us want to ignore. But the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" currently being considered in Congress needs your attention, as it will have a dramatic and devastating impact on low-income American families if allowed to become law.
This far-reaching plan, which the House hopes to rush through by Thanksgiving (read more about the plan here), provides enormous tax cuts for the wealthy and profitable corporations. Worse yet, when Congress turns its attention to paying for it's plan, critical social services such as Medicaid and SNAP (food stamps) will be on the chopping block.
We have heard repeatedly, from those who support the proposal, that tax cuts will drive economic growth. This has been proven incorrect time and again. The truth of the matter is that this is a backdoor way to cut spending on programs that assist low-income families in the near future. We can boil down all 429 pages of this "tax-reform" to two steps.
Call your Congressman AND your Senators and say:
"As your constituent I ask you to vote against the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act which will add $1.5 trillion to the nation's deficit and force cuts to crucial social programs in the near future to make up for these tax cuts for the rich."
